Welcome in Texel!
Together with our guide you will go by boat to the North Holland Island Texel, full of beaches, varied landscape, picturesque villages, fresh air and an interesting history.
Discover the island under the supervision of your personal Holland Tour Guides guide and visit villages like Oudeschild, where you will find the “Maritiem en Jutters Museum’ (Maritime and Beachcombers Museum). In this museum the history of Texel is explained and showed and you can see what the life of a beachcomber in Texel looked like (and looks like!).
The fortress De Schans, built in 1574 by order of Willem van Oranje, is part of the defense of the Zuyder Zee access. Under the authority of the Vereniging Natuurmonumenten (Association Nature Reserves) this fortress has been restored for the greater part and is accessible to public, ask your guide about it!
During the VOC period Texel was used as “waiting place” for boats. These merchant ships of the VOC lay in the roads in front of Texel, waiting for a favorable wind. We will take you to Oudeschild. In this port, at the Wadden Sea side of the island, various historic elements from the VOC period have been preserved.
In Den Burg we will pass the Oudheidskamer (Antiquity room) of Texel, located in one of the oldest houses of the island. In this museum you can take a look at life in Texel around 1900 in the period rooms, the basement and on the attic. Off course we will also take a look at the smallest public herb garden of The Netherlands which is located here.
We will further take you along villages like De Koog, with the little church from 1415 and we will walk or cycle through the picturesque village Oosterend, with her small streets with nice, carefully restored historic houses.
Off course Texel also means beach and sea! If you appreciate it, our guides will take you to the beach. In summer you can enjoy sun and sea here; during other seasons the beach is also always worth a visit! Enjoy the wind, the salty lips and the beautiful clouds!
