Welcome in Rotterdam! Our guides will take you to the Old Maas city today.
Off course Rotterdam is known for her harbors; until recently Rotterdam had the largest sea port of the world! Nowadays there are still many interesting things to see in Main port Rotterdam, varying from oil tankers as large as buildings, to parts of industrial tourism, picturesque harborbuildings and pubs.
The city also has many architectonic highlights; in 2007 Rotterdam was, not for nothing, THE architecture city of the Netherlands! Already before the 2nd World War the city was a forerunner in this field. During the war a lot was destroyed in the city centre but fortunately a part has also been preserved; for example take a look at the beautiful ‘glass’ Van Nelle factory or the Huis Sonneveld. After the war Rotterdam was built up again and in that period (until today!) Rotterdam has had a special bond with striking architecture. Take a look at daring projects like the Groothandelsgebouw, the Kunsthal, the famous cube homes, the LuxusTheater and the Erasmusbrug (bridge).
It goes without saying that we can also visit a museum. Rotterdam has over 30 museums and your guide knows them all! Think of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, with her beautiful collection of old and new art. Or perhaps the Belasting & Douane Museum (Tax and Customs Museum) will be interesting for you? Or are you looking for something maritime? On shipyard De Delft you can see how people used to build ships in the past; a replica of the 18th century ship of the “De Delft” is built here.
You will notice it during your visit: Rotterdam dares!
