Welcome in Medemblik! Medemblik is one of the oldest (and also smallest) cities of West Friesland and has the same atmosphere as hundreds of years ago. Medemblik is a cosy fishing village, located at the former Zuyder Zee. You will also find the (final) stop of the Museum steam tram Hoorn-Medemblik here.
The old West Frisian Omringdijk (dike), in fact the old dike between the land and the Zuyder Zee, is located along the city and offers splendid views of the IJselmeer (lake).
At the end of the 13th century Count Floris V had constructed a strong fortress at the Almere (nowadays IJsselmeer). This fortress Radboud is still present nowadays and can be visited; whatever you want! The old Bonifacius Kerk (church) from 1404 is also a monument from the Middle Ages and is definitely worth a visit, just like the old Weeshuis (Orphanage).
