Fanny Blankers-Koen is a true sports-hero; she made an outstanding performance at the first Olympic Games after World War II, held in 1948 in London! She won gold medals on the 100 and 200 meters, but also at the 80 meters hurdles and 4 X 100 meters realy-race. She achieved this as a 30-year-old mother of two, that’s why she got those nicknames. Still, every year in Hengelo the Fanny Blankers-Koen-games are held in the stadium. It’s the biggest international athletics-event held in The Netherlands.
