Welcome in Gouda!
Holland Tour Guides takes you to Gouda which is, together with Alkmaar, THE cheese city of The Netherlands and of the whole world. But that isn’t all; Gouda is off course also known for its candles, pipes and treacle waffles!
Walk along through the old and monumental Gouda, where we will find the weekly Cheese Market around the impressive and age-old town hall of Gouda. The cheese used to be weighed in the old days and the tax was determined and paid. Nowadays it is a museum and if you want to we can take a look inside; your guide will tell you everything about Gouda and her cheese history.
In the Turfsingel in Gouda we will show you the museum harbor, where we can find the ‘bruine beroepsvaart’ and other historic boats. We can, if you want to, take you to the inland harbor museum, where you can admire the trade with amongst others the Zuyder Zee.
If you want to sail yourself, we could make a boat tour together with a so-called ‘fluisterbootje’ through the beautiful restored canals and watercourses through the old city. Very relaxed and you will get a nice view of Gouda from the water in this way.
Off course we will also show you the construction of the retrieved foundations of the old city gate and the city castle and we will visit the beautiful St. Janskerk (church) and the old Jeruzalemkapel (chapel) which is about 5 centuries old.
We can end the day in one of the cosy pubs in the old city centre, where we can talk about our experiences, eat some cheese or a treacle waffle and perhaps smoke a pipe…..
