Eindhoven, the city of lights! But not only were the light bulbs from Philips produced over here. Because of the rich textile-, cigars-, hats- and matches-industry, the Nazis decided to bomb Eindhoven during the Second World War. All the original industry was bombed away in five years. But, fortunately, nowadays a lot of other industry has taken its place.
Imagine this: you’re walking through Stratumseind with our experienced tour guide. He speaks so vividly about the liberation of Eindhoven, that you can actually hear the ecstatic crowd scream! You can see Canadian soldiers handing out loads of chocolatebars and cigarettes, beautiful girls are pulled upon the tanks. An elderly man does a little dance in the street. Dutch flags coming out of every house…
Still, every year, this very special happening that is engraved in the minds of the elderly people of Eindhoven, is celebrated over here! This happens at the fest of lights – het Lichtjesfeest – and during the route of lights – de Lichtjesroute. This route is 25 kilometres long and is preferably done by night and by car. A big joy for little children as well; there are lights everywhere, sometimes even in the shape of a Smurf or around the enormous, former Philips-building the Admirant!
Let this special City of Lights induce you!
