Welcome in Den Bosch!
Den Bosch belongs to the oldest medieval cities of Holland. The fortified city has been build around the worldwide known cathedral basilica Sint-Jan Evangelist, popularly called St. Janskathedraal. The bishop of ‘s-Hertogenbosch is seated here.
On top of this cathedral, a (literally!) highlight of the late Brabant Gothic, you can see many figures chopped out of stone, which many people don’t know. These figures give a splendid (and detailed!) image of the town’s population at the time of the basilica’s construction; artisans, musicians, but also thieves and usurers have been designed beautifully and have been located here for ages.
The city centre of Den Bosch descends from the Middle Ages and practically has its original state; unique in The Netherlands. By the way the city centre is the largest area surrounded by town ramparts and town walls, of Holland.
We take you to the old centre, with the age-old buildings, narrow alleys and canals. We will show you the oldest, still existing, brick house of The Netherlands, the "Moriaan".
The almost completely restored Binnendieze, the old city river which partly streams under the city, is unique and beautiful. This underground water system can be discovered by a ‘fluisterboot’, if you want to.
