Welcome at the Red-Light District!This tour will take you to the old centre of Amsterdam, where amongst others you will find the red-light district. This probably is the most well-known area of the Netherlands; or course nobody has ever been here…..;-) .
Our guides will tell you about prostitutes, pimps and cribs. Together we will walk along the ladies behind the windows; we will secretly peek in through the window of the Banana bar and the Erotic museum. Along the way you will listen to the anecdotes of our guide, stories of well-known prostitutes and their sometimes famous customers…!
But of course we will not only visit the red-light district! Our local Amsterdam guide will also take you along the Zeedijk (dike), once very notorious, and through the unique Chinatown, where street signs are even bilingual. This area is full with Eastern shops, restaurants, massage houses, shops and hairdressing salons. You will taste the oriental world, in the middle of old Mokum!
What are the written and customs, how did this neighbourhood come about, when did prostitution start and how did it develop? Halfway through the tour we can talk with an former prostitute and chat with her over a drink.
