The story goes that Urk’s Dads had to row 30 kilometres to "Ommel Bommel Stien" to receive their offspring. That is a different story to the stork one ! You will be walking in between these warm, albeit somewhat weird, people during a Walking Dinner Urk! Well that is if you are lucky enough to meet a few, because Urk is the smallest municipality of Flevoland.
Urk is not only known for fishing but also because of the large number of choirs! During our tour of the village, you will meet both, perhaps both simultaneously! We will view the lighthouse, visit the harbour, see the monument to Urk’s fishermen and take a look at one of the many churches that are to be found in Urk. In between, we will always stop at a restaurant for a delicious snack and drink. That is now real fun!
But before you book this special dinner one more salient detail. Did you know that in the thirties a remarkable study was conducted by the Frisian doctor Tjittes Piebenga to determine the size of the skull of the Urkers? It was thought that the Urkers belonged to a special (read: retarded) primal Holland's race. For this study, skulls were looted from graves.
