You will love the relaxed and non-nonsense attitude of the inhabitants of Leeuwarden! Even the church tower of the Oldenhove seems to have adapted that attitude; it is crooked and not even finished yet! It is said that once upon a time a woman was knitting by the sea, when she saw the church floating by. ‘Hou alde’, she said (‘Stop oude’ which means: Stop Old One), and the church was called Oldenhove. This fable also resembles the worries Leeuwarden has had because of this church.
There’s always a fun story to be told about the sights in Leeuwarden. And you will experience this during our Walking Brunch Leeuwarden. With the guide, you’ll be walking from one spot to the other, and stop from time to time to have a drink and a bite.
Leeuwarden is on the list of the fifteen cities which houses the most monuments. You will easlily start to feel a bit overwhelmed this afternoon! You’ll walk through the beautiful city centre with its old houses and buildings and pass by the Waag, which is situated prominently at the square. There’s the Palace of Justice, church the Jacobijnerkerk and the Stadsweeshuis (former orphanage), which now houses the museum of nature. Too much to mention! And we will end the afternoon by enjoying something nice to eat and drink maybe even at the foot of the Oldenhove. If you call out ‘Hou alde’, your brunch-colleagues will definitely have a blast!
